Solyndra Installations
Conventional flat-plate “commodity” PV panels can experience very high loads during high-wind conditions, such as our monsoons; therefore, the panels must be securely bolted through the roof membrane and into structural members. Some roof structures must be reinforced to withstand both winds trying to pull the panels off or push the panels into the roof. The unique, cylindrical configuration of the PV elements of the Solyndra panel allows wind to blow through the panels, so it is self-ballasted and the PV array simply and safely rest on the roof using rubber-cushioned mounts. When installed as intended on a typical flat, white-reflective roof, advantages of a Solyndra installation include:
Self-Ballasting: No bolts, nails or screws to penetrate the roof
membrane, cause leaks and violate roof warranty.
No additional ballast weight required.
No structural roof modifications required.
High-Temperature Performance: Thin-film PV element maintains higher
performance during hot summer days.
Self-Tracking: Cylindrical PV elements track the sun as it moves
across the sky, maximizing performance.
Aesthetically-Pleasing Low-Profile array (9 inches above the roof surface) is
easily hidden by parapets or roof-edge sight lines.
Easy Installation: Even a large Solyndra array can be installed in one or
two days.
More information about the US-made Solyndra PV system is available at the Solyndra website.
We love installing Solyndra, but we will be happy to serve you with conventional PV panels if you don’t have a flat, white-reflective roof. Contact us!
